Move the System Index to another drive.

Another way to improve the system performance is to disable System indexing service.But Indexing the files and folders in our computer helps us to find them easily and quickly.So disabling it is not recommended.Instead you can change the location of the Index from the C drive to another drive.Moving the Index frees a lot of space in the C drive which helps to improve your system performance.To move the search index to another drive do the following:
1.First, type “index” in the Search Box and press Enter.
2.Now you can see the Indexing settings window.Click on “Advanced“.
3.Here,from Index Settings click on “Select New” under the “Index Location” section.
4.Enter a new location for the search index in the textbox and press Enter.

Move the pagefile to another drive.

Pagefile is the space reserved in a drive which is used as an additional memory by the operating system.Vista can automatically optimize the Pagefile size in each drive depending on demand.So you can use this tip if you have more than one physical hard drives in your PC.You can move the Pagefile from a hard drive where you have installed Windows vista to the second hard drive.This will considerably improve your system performance.To do this
1.Right click on “My Computer” and select “Properties“.
2.Click on “Advanced System Settings” link.
3.Click on the “Advanced” tab.(Make sure that you have logged in as Administrator).
4.Now click on “Settings” under the “Performance” section.
5.Now choose advanced and  under the “Virtual Memory” section click on “Change”
6.Uncheck the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” checkbox.
7.Now select a drive other than the hard drive in which you have installed Vista and select “Custom size” to set a custom Pagefile size.Now type a value which can be space used in a drive as pagefile and press Enter.
8.Now select the partition in the drive in which you have installed Vista and select “No paging file” and click Set.

Improve the performance of Vista by tweaking the Power Settings.

By default,Vista has a power setting ideal for Laptops and Notebooks.So you need not have to worry about tweaking the power options to save power.The bad part of this is that even if you have a powerful processor and other hardware, you cannot be able to use it at its best because of this power settings. So you can disable these power saving features of Vista and get the maximum performance out of your PC.Follow these steps to disable the default power settings in Vista.
1.First,go to Start>Control Panel.
2.Switch the Control Panel view to “Classic View“.
3.Double click on the “power options“.
4.Now change the power profile to “High Performance“.
